Should I shop by price only?
Low bid companies save money in ways that may cause
you problems. Saving money by under paying the cleaning
staff in your office can lead to corner cutting, as
the job is rushed trying to make a reasonable “per
hour” wage.
Or, the low bid company may skip on office supervision
checkups, hoping their underpaid work force will do
the job right. They will rely on you to be the supervisor
and call them when there’s trouble. You’re
probably looking for a new service to avoid just this
kind of hassle!
Some companies hire subcontractors to do the work,
looking the other way on legal matters like payroll
taxes, immigration and legal residency, often taking
advantage of foreigners desperate for work. While this
approach will save money, are these the kind of ethics
you want in a company that’s in your offices every
night?
Subcontractors can also have their own ideas about
the way work should be done, and those few who are legitimate
independent businesses can be unresponsive to suggestions.
Altair never uses subcontractors, preferring our own
well trained employees.
A poorly paid employee has little to lose with bad
work, and that’s what you get with the lowest
bid. False solutions like subcontracting just make things
worse.
Bottom line: Be careful!
